She might not win any prizes at Crufts but this small, 12-month-old female has many winning attributes. She is healthy, friendly, inquisitive, playful and all-round adorable. She likes people, cats and other dogs. She has not had a good start in life. In fact, so eager was she to escape from the owners who kept her tied up that she chewed right through a thick rope, in order to make her get-away. She is at present in the care of SPAD (the local Society for the Protection of Domestic Animals). In a month, she will be ready to go to a new home after she has been spayed and has had all the necessary vaccinations. She will make someone a loyal and trusting pet. Could you be the one to offer her a secure home?

Any one lost a leg?

A funny thing happened earlier this week, as I was driving to see a client in Faja D'ovelha. I turned off from the main road from Prazeres and as I followed the windy road down to the village, as I turned the corner there was a leg, jutting out from the side of the road. My first
impression was that it was a dead body lying at the side of the road.
Not wishing to be late I carried on to the village and thought I'd take
a proper look on the way back if it were still there.

On the way back, it was still lying there , so I stopped and took some
photos of the prosthetic limb and had a good look around to see if its
owner was lying in the bushes somewhere. The lay-by is at the side of a
very steep drop with no guard rail, and peering over the edge I could
see that someone had used this place as a fly tip. So it begs the
question...What was the leg doing there? Was it tipped along with some
rubbish but left at the side of the road as a joke, or did the one
legged 'tipper' fall over the edge and lob his leg up over the top to
attract attention for help?

How can one lose their leg and not even notice?

At the end of the day this will probably remain a mystery but, I
couldn't resist posting this photo, as it's not everyday you get to
see a leg lying at the side of the road!!!
